Leadership Development
Educators must be prepared and supported to address the needs of students.
“I know that when I have an issue and I have a problem, I can call any one of them.” - Arsenio Romero, member, former secretary of New Mexico Public Education Department (from video)
Chiefs for Change develops superintendents and state education chiefs in three ways:
- Peer network: When leaders share best practices, students win. Superintendents and state education chiefs meet regularly to share what’s going well and where they need support.
- Executive coaching: Members receive customized support for their unique context using evidence-based solutions to create effective strategies. We also advise leaders as they implement change to ensure lasting results.
- Future Chiefs: Stability in leadership is stability for students. We equip superintendents who are ready to take on state leadership roles through mentorship and coaching. This is especially crucial for leaders of color, who are underrepresented nationwide, as more than half of K-12 students nationwide are students of color. Future Chiefs receive training in public speaking and board relations, as well as support for search and placement for chief roles.
