Makese Motley is director of federal policy. Prior to joining Chiefs for Change, he served as the senior director of public policy at City Year/Voices for National Service. Before his time at City Year, Makese worked at the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU). There, he was assistant director of federal relations and supported the organization’s advocacy efforts on the Higher Education Act, student financial aid, teacher preparation, and veterans’ issues within higher education.

Makese began his career working for political campaigns, including the 2004 re-election campaign of Senator Patty Murray and the 2008 election campaign of former Congressman Larry Kissell. In addition, Makese worked for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and as a member of Senator Bob Casey’s legislative staff.

Makese is a graduate of Northeastern University and received his master’s degree in policy management from Georgetown University’s McCourt School of Public Policy.
